Jacob is a friend from local theatre who has modeled for many of my classes, and he has been featured in many of my paintings. This study was painted from life as a practice session in my studio, with the emphasis being the challenge of describing the "hot" color of the backlit orange backdrop against the model's shadowed face.
Artists like myself regularly paint simple head studies of models as a way to keep up our life painting skills. This is why I have countless head and shoulders paintings of models in my studio.
